OCT 21, 2026 / Kings Lose Their Grip as Clippers Run Away With Season Opener / L 96-121
Los Angeles, CA - The Sacramento Kings opened their season with a rough landing, falling 121-96 to the Los Angeles Clippers after a disastrous third quarter turned a competitive contest into a runaway defeat. Zach LaVine led Sacramento with 28 points, while Domantas Sabonis contributed 14 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists. Precious Achiuwa added 15 points, but the Kings struggled to match Los Angeles' offensive efficiency. The Clippers raced to a 41-29 first-quarter advantage before Sacramento battled back, trimming an 18-point deficit to 61-54 at halftime. Unfortunately, the comeback stopped there. Los Angeles dominated the third quarter 32-16, shooting 64.7% while holding Sacramento to just 27.3%, building a commanding 93-70 lead. Darius Garland led the Clippers with 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while Brook Lopez delivered 17 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie Keaton Wagler added 15 points and five assists off the bench. Sacramento's seventh overall draft pick, Darius Acuff Jr., experienced a difficult NBA debut, finishing with 12 points and three assists while shooting just 5-of-24, including seven missed three-point attempts. The Clippers finished shooting 52.4% overall, grabbed 14 steals, and outrebounded Sacramento 49-42. For the Kings, defensive breakdowns and inconsistent shooting spoiled an opportunity to start the season with a victory.
