San Leandro Players - The Golden Bay Times

Once upon a time, Ann, Rita, Gertrude, Alice, and Carrie shared the baseball diamond as members of an all-female team called the Chesapeake Chicks. Years later, their playing days are behind them, but their lives are still intertwined under one roof. Then Ann dies, and what should be a period of mourning turns into something considerably more alarming. Matthew, the household caretaker, discovers Ann's journal, complete with a final message suggesting that someone in the house intended to kill her. Suddenly, old friendships come under suspicion, personal histories invite uncomfortable questions, and nobody can be entirely sure who belongs on whose team. Rita must confront the loss of her twin sister, while the other women find themselves drawn into a mystery that refuses to behave. With a former actress, a cantankerous roommate, and a friend interested in communicating with the dead among the residents, there is no shortage of personalities to complicate the investigation. Peter Zachari's The Chesapeake Chicks combines a murder mystery with comic mayhem, placing a group of longtime companions in a game where the rules have changed and the stakes are far higher than a championship trophy.
